Smugglers, Mariners and Festive Fun

December 6, 2012 by Rottingdean Leave a Comment

This year’s Festive Exhibition at The Grange will be displaying the works of Mick Bensley, Amanda Davidson and Phillip Sugg. Those of you who used to visit Arty phArty Studios in Nevill Road may well remember seeing the wonderful puppet theatre on display there. It was the work of newcomer to the village, artist and former museum curator, Phillip Sugg.

In celebration of Rottingdean’s Smugglers Night on Sat 1st Dec. Phillip has created a new Puppet Theatre about the Smugglers of Rottingdean, which will include local stories and characters with set-scenes of The Black Horse pub and the Windmill on Beacon Hill and featuring Kipling’s ‘The Smugglers Song’.

There will be an inter-active performance on the stage, in the village hall, for all the family on Dec 1st during the day, along with various other smuggling arty events led by Amanda and ‘Willow the Wisp’ before moving to the joint exhibition at The Grange.

Once on display, you will get a chance to see the marionettes and buy cards and prints of his work. To continue the theme, Mick will be showing his amazingly detailed marine paintings and 2013 calendar. There will also be new, colourful paintings, prints and cards by Amanda in conjunction with her Xmas Artist Open House at Tudor Close. (details in the AOH brochure and web-site).

The Grange Exhibition starts 29th Nov-18th Dec. Contact Amanda Davidson 07763584330
