The donation towards the event follows the completion of work on the seafront and the Lower High Street by Southern Water to ensure that wastewater from the properties on the south of the coast road goes into the new sewer tunnel constructed as part of its £300 million environmental improvement scheme to bring cleaner seas to Sussex.
The Summer Smugglers event, that follows on from the popular Smugglers Night held in December, will see stalls, games and live music on the Terraces in the village on the July 21.
Cathy Taylor, Chair of the Rottingdean Trade, Business and Professional Association, accepted the cheque saying: “Rottingdean has a long history involving smuggling and through events such as these we pay our respect to that heritage. We are very grateful to Southern Water and BTU, donations like this ensure we can continue put on these events.”
Lee Hooper, Southern Water project manager, said: “We are delighted to be sponsoring this event and we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone in the village for their patience during these essential works.”
The works were completed by contractor BTU.
