PARC Won Charity Of The Year

November 18, 2015 by Rottingdean Leave a Comment

parc-awardA big congratulations to PARC who won charity of the year at the Argus Community Stars Awards.

Play Area in Rottingdean Committee raised £85,000 to build Connor’s Court in 2014.

PARC also raised £19,000 the same year to build Owen’s Shelter in Saltdean Oval Park in memory of Owen Bergin. This is next to the Skate Park we funded in 2004.

Don’t forget that we also built the Play Area in Ovingdean as well as the Rottingdean Play Area and toilets – all adding up to just under half a million pounds invested over twenty years in the local community.

All of this is made possible by the terrific support of our loyal volunteers, our generous customers and donors to the Charity Shop and large funders such as the Argus Appeal, Lloyds Bank and Rottingdean Parish Council.

Currently we are looking to mark the 20th anniversary in 2016 of the first Play Area being built at Rottingdean Recreation Ground by giving it a facelift and replacing some of the older pieces of equipment.

If you and your family use the play area please let PARC know what sort of improvements you would like to see.

Caravans at Rottingdean Recreation Ground

June 30, 2014 by Rottingdean Leave a Comment

When members of PARC heard that a number of caravans had made their way to the Recreation Ground we immediately notified the police and the council that there is an event planned for the Rec on Sunday.

Debbie Taylor Secretary of Brighton theatre Group Youth had invited 50 children and their families to a celebration of their recent production of “Grease” to a BBQ and picnic at our local park.

We advised the council and police that money had already been spent on food and that it was too short notice to contact everyone to reschedule or move the venue. This evidence has given the council and the police sufficient cause to move the travellers on so that the event can take place tomorrow and they should all have gone by 6pm this evening.

Early reports show that damage has been done to the table tennis tables.

Thanks to local councillors Lynda Hyde and Mary Mears and to MP Simon Kirby for support in expediting this.

PARC Charity Shop

April 7, 2014 by Rottingdean Leave a Comment

PARC raises money for play facilities for children and teenagers in the local area. Our Charity Shops have recently been undergoing extensive repairs and refurbishments due to the very poor quality of the buildings we rent from the council.

These works are already showing great new looks but are not yet completed. Over the next few weeks the outside of the shops will be brought up to scratch and we are doing this with limited funds. Please bear with us while these works continue.

Please continue to support us with your donations of clothes, toys, books and bric-a-brac. The little toys we put in the 20p bin are a great attraction so please keep sending them to us. We are open 7 days a week.

If you would like to volunteer in the shop for a couple of hours a week please contact me Cathy Taylor Shop Manager on cathytaylor57@hotmail.com

Connor’s Court Given The Go Ahead

October 10, 2013 by Rottingdean Leave a Comment

Connors CourtConnor’s Court was today given the go ahead by Brighton and Hove City Council’s Planning Committee who voted unanimously in favour. Congratulations and thanks to all the councillors on the Planning Committee and to the planning officer who recommended it for approval.

Thanks also to the Rottingdean Parish Council who voted to support the application and who will now be able to consider their financial contribution to the project.

Thank you also to everyone who has supported this project, donated money and to PARC’s amazing team of volunteers who run the charity shop which has raised the bulk of the money needed to proceed with building in 2014 after the winter period.

Thanks also to the Argus Appeal for their contribution of £5,000 towards the overall cost of £70,000.

Owen’s Shelter

November 30, 2012 by Rottingdean Leave a Comment

Friends of Owen Bergin, a local teenager who lost his life recently to cancer, came together recently to raise money for a tribute to their friend who loved skate boarding. The equipment planned is a teenage seating shelter which will be installed facing the skate park in Saltdean where friends can meet and watch the skating.

Pictured are Denise Street, Lisa Ashing and Carol Alexander with a cheque to PARC for £900 raised amazingly at a coffee morning which included Owen’s friends washing cars as well as tea and cakes!

PARC is aiming to raise £9,000 for this project and anyone wishing to contribute can contact Cathy Taylor on catherine.taylor6@btinternet.com
