A new-look prospectus for the Whiteway Centre’s autumn programme of courses will be appearing in local shops and libraries during the next few days, or you can find the information on our website. Enrolment is already open – a wise move if you want to secure your place on a popular course, as numbers may be capped. Or you can enrol in person at our Enrolment Day on Saturday, 8th September, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Rottingdean Library in The Grange, when we shall be glad to answer any questions (if we can) about the courses.
There is an American theme to the Arts this year. We shall be looking at American Music, the history of American Art, and two centuries of American Fiction. But there will also be the history of British Art and, for would-be linguists, we again offer Latin, Italian, French and Spanish at different levels. Historians will be able to revisit Prehistoric Britain, Ancient Egypt, Medieval Castles, Victorian Britain, or, closer to home, work out their own Family History, or indeed investigate the formation of the Sussex Coast – or maybe argue about Burning Issues of the day. And just because some of us may not be as fit as we should be, there will be a Workout for Softies!
Drawing and Painting are back in various guises with our favourite trio of local artists, as well as a new course in Calligraphy, and one on Painting on Silk. And if you are nifty with a needle, why not try Patchwork, or Dressmaking, or Fashion and Style? Would-be authors can join a Writers Workshop; you can learn to play Bridge, or indeed acquire new demon skills in the game; become more computer-proficient, either in a mix-and-match course, or at our drop-in Computer Club. Our aim is to offer something for all – we can’t promise you hard work and discipline, because we’re not so keen on them ourselves, but we like to think that you’ll find interest, hopefully inspiration, make new friends, and indeed have fun when you try out one or more of our courses.
