Declan Mongey, The Plough

December 29, 2012 by Rottingdean 9 Comments

Following the sad news we have heard today, the Rottingdean Trade, Business and Professional Association have sent the following message to be posted on the Rottingdean Village website.

It is with the deepest regret that we have heard today of the tragic and untimely death of one of our members, Declan Mongey, manager of the Plough lnn at Rottingdean. Declan was an active member of the Association and will be greatly missed, particularly by his fellow licencees in the village.

Our thoughts are very much with Declan’s partner and family.

We feel that any further comment would be inappropriate until the police have completed their enquiries.

On behalf of Rottingdean Arts, we would like to say how shocked and upset we were to hear of Declan’s tragic death. He was a great supporter of community events in the village including the Spring Music Festival and Rottingdean Jazz Club. We will all miss him a great deal and will remember his enthusiasm and professionalism as landlord of The Plough. We send our condolences to Karl and all members of Declan’s family.

Thank you all so much for your lovely words about my brother Declan. He is a huge loss to Karl, my dad and myself and to our family. We miss him terribly. Thanks to all the people of Rottingdean who made Declan’s final 3 years his happiest. He loved it there and my dad and I love the village too having visited for a week in the summer of 2011 and again for the funeral. Thanks too to all those who attended Dec’s funeral. It was clear from the huge attendance that Declan was really loved there.
