Please see below an extremely serious and worrying email from PCSO Chris Kingswood. Please inform as many people as possible. The incidents occurred at the Co-Op in Saltdean, also in Rottingdean and Woodingdean.
We have had two reports of ATM’s in the area being used to obtain money by deception. On each occasion the card has been retained by the machine and at a later time a large amount of money taken from the account.
Please check over the cash machine before you use it, run your hand along the under side, it should be smooth and flat, no protrusions lumps or attachments, micro cameras can be very small. Take a good look at the card slot, this may have a false front again it should be flat, finally check the numerical key pad, to ensure that there is no overlay on the keys to record your transaction.
In the last incident, withdrawals totalling £3000 was taken, the card and pin number has been used indicating that they are genuine, and therefore making it very hard for the victim to fight their case with the bank.
If your card is retained by the ATM stay at the machine and call your bank asking them to check your account straight away and get them to stop that card.
Please make sure you check the ATM before you use it.
